Detailed appendices also give information on such things as insignia of ranks and branches, listing of common MOS's, a breakdown of each division by sub unit, with a brief history and a listing of their campaigns, a capsule history of each campaign, and a bibliography of useful books on various campaigns and units. Color illustrations of campaign ribbons, decorations, insignia, and rare photos accompany the detailed text.

About the Author
Jon Gawne is considered one of the leading experts on the history of American Army uniforms and equipment in both world wars. His numerous articles for Militaria Magazine have covered everything from the shortage of winter clothing during the Battle of the Bulge to the history of dog tags. His writings have been translated into many languages, including French, Italian and Czech, and are equally popular in both Europe and the US. He has been a technical consultant for films and museums. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife and a small spoiled dog, in a house overrun with books, documents and military memorabilia.

This book is most helpful for those who have limited information about the services during the war. I was looking for information about the different medals and decorations, but the information included was limited. It's worth a look if researching World War II participants.

If you are trying to figure out anything having to do with World War II, this book is a must! This book helped me identify my father's unit, his military rank, where he was stationed and when. Because his records were destroyed at the National Archives in 1973, I had no place to turn for help in understanding the memorabilia I did have. This book explained everything clearly and included important pictures. I am so appreciative to the author for taking a very complex subject and making it easy for the WWII novice.

Finding Your Father's War Revised Edition.

I thought I sent this in when I received this book last summer. Book has been very beneficial when doing research on my father's war time service. Disappointed that it did not have maps in it like the first edition did.
